It is better understood: Brominated polystyrene is in the form of light yellow particles or powder. It is a brominated organic flame retardant with high flame retardancy. The content is around 68%. Thermal decomposition temperature is greater than 330℃.

The flame retardant mechanism of brominated polystyrene:

The flame retardant mechanism of brominated flame retardants is mainly the thermal decomposition of brominated flame retardants. HBr is generated, and HBr can capture active free radicals (such as OH., 0., H·) that pass the combustion chain reaction, and generate less active bromine free radicals, causing combustion to slow down or stop. In addition, HBr is a dense gas and refractory to combustion. It can not only dilute the oxygen in the air, but also cover the surface of the material and isolate the air, causing the material to slow down the burning speed or self-extinguish.

The uses of brominated polystyrene are as follows:

Brominated polystyrene is a polymer additive with highly thermally stable aromatic bromine. , has good thermal stability and chemical stability. It has good compatibility with engineering plastics and has little impact on the mechanical properties of the material. Products added with BPS have the advantages of no precipitation, no frost on the surface, and antistatic properties.

Brominated polystyrene is made from polystyrene as raw material through bromination. It is mainly used as a flame retardant in engineering plastics. Since polystyrene (PS) is an engineering plastic, BPS has good compatibility with engineering plastics. It has the least impact on the mechanical properties of the material and can maintain more than 90% of the mechanical properties.

Brominated polystyrene is widely used in engineering plastics such as polybutylene terephthalate, polyethylene terephthalate, polyphenylene ether, and nylon-66.

Brominated polystyrene is mainly used in thermoplastic resins such as PA, PBT, PET, etc., and needs to be used in conjunction with sharpeners. For flame retardant polyester, the addition amount is 10% (reinforced) ~ 17% (non-reinforced), which can give the material UL94V-0 level (0.8mm). For flame retardant polyamide, the addition amount is 21%, which can be given to the material. UL94V-0 grade (0.8mm).
