The physical and chemical properties and uses of decabromodiphenylethane

Image keywords

Decabromodiphenylethane is a broad-spectrum additive flame retardant that is widely used.

Physical and chemical properties:

Relative molecular mass is 971.31. It is white or light yellow powder. Slightly soluble in water, alcohol and ether. Melting point 357℃. The theoretical bromine content is 82.3%. It has high bromine content, good thermal stability, good UV resistance, and lower bleeding than other brominated flame retardants.

Usage:

It is used as a new environmentally friendly flame retardant, mainly used to replace decabromodiphenyl ether flame retardant. When decabromodiphenyl ethane is thermally cracked or burned, it does not produce toxic polybrominated dibenzodioxane (PBDO). And polybrominated dibenzofurans (PBDF), flame-retardant materials using it fully comply with the requirements of European ROHS regulations. It can be used in HIPS, ABS resin and PVC, PP and other plastics.

It has excellent thermal stability and extremely high bromine content, as well as strong UV resistance and low toxicity. It is widely used in styrenic polymers, engineering thermoplastics, wire and cable coverings, insulators, elastomers and thermosetting plastics. It is especially suitable for flame retardant materials used in the production of computers, fax machines, telephones, copiers, home appliances and other materials.
