Oleic acid is an unsaturated fatty acid containing a double bond in natural oils. It exists in natural plants and animals in the form of glycerides. Oleic acid, especially high-purity oleic acid, is an important fine chemical product and can be widely used in paints and inks, coatings, mineral flotation agents, film antistatic agents, slip agents, textile auxiliaries, and explosive emulsifiers. The “oleic acid” product commonly known in the industry refers to an 18-carbon unsaturated fatty acid, which is a mixture of oleic acid, linoleic acid, and linoleic acid. Some products on the market are still unsaturated fatty acids based on linoleic acid.
According to different sources, the classification of oleic acid in my country’s industrial industry mainly includes animal (vegetable) oils, acidified oils (vegetable oil refining by-products), swill oil, and gutter oil (recycled from the catering industry). oil), tall oil, etc. The following four types of oleic acid are introduced to you:
1. Animal oleic acid
The main sources of animal oleic acid are lard and beef tallow. Compared with vegetable oleic acid, animal oleic acid generally has a lower iodine value, lower oleic acid content, smaller overall output, and smaller market capacity. It is mainly used as a raw material for synthetic detergents, metal rust inhibitors, plastic plasticizers, inks and paints, carbon paper, ballpoint pen oil, etc. It is also an intermediate for the production of nylon and has certain applications in textile auxiliaries, crude oil recovery, and demulsifiers. .
2. Acidified oil oleic acid
Acidified oil is obtained by acidifying the by-product oil and saponin in the refining process of vegetable oil. Acidified oil undergoes decolorization, deodorization, distillation and other processes to obtain oleic acid, such as soybean oleic acid and cottonseed oleic acid. This type of oleic acid is the oleic acid with the largest output in the market today. Its general iodine value is 125gI/100g. It mainly contains linoleic acid and has a high freezing point. It is mainly used for the synthesis of alkyd resins, polyamide resins, dimer acids, etc. .
3. Gutter oil oleic acid
The ingredients of gutter oil are composed of mostly vegetable oils and a small part of animal oils, which are hydrolyzed into fatty acids and then After separation, in order to meet the needs of the market, products with a freezing point less than 10°C are generally produced. The iodine value is around 115gI/100g and the oleic acid content is about 50%. It is mainly used in mineral processing and other industries.
4. High-purity vegetable oleic acid
The raw material of high-purity vegetable oleic acid is mainly palm kernel oil. The oleic acid content is greater than 75%, light color, no peculiar smell, low freezing point and good thermal stability. It is mainly used in pharmaceutical, daily chemical and other industries that have high requirements on the quality of oleic acid. On the one hand, the price of this type of oleic acid is affected by the production capacity of the main manufacturers that produce oleic acid. If the production is high and the output is high, there will be more goods on the market. If the supply of oleic acid is sufficient, the price will naturally be low. On the other hand, affected by the output from Indonesia and Malaysia, two palm kernel oil producing countries, the large output, large inventory, and low raw material prices will have a certain impact on oleic acid.
