Recently, Tesla launched Model 3 and Model 3 in its online store and smartphone app in North America. Y's advanced color car wrap service allows car owners to change the color of their vehicle without having to paint the entire vehicle. Tesla says these wraps use a self-healing polyurethane-based film that protects the underlying paint from chips, scratches and orange peel. It sounds like the electric car maker is offering colored paint protection films that are better than typical vinyl films.

Tesla for Model 3 and Model 3 The seven colors available on the Y include: Satin Ceramic White, Smooth Grey, Satin Invisible Black, Satin Rose Gold, Glacier Blue, Forest Green and Crimson Red. The first three colors are priced at $7,500 each, and the last four colors are priced at $8,000 each. It’s worth noting that the seven-color body wraps aren’t cheap, with prices ranging from $7,500 to $8,000. The purchase price includes materials and installation at a Tesla service center rather than installation at the factory.

Currently, only two locations in Southern California offer this service, West Covina and Carlsbad. Tesla also says installation can take five to seven business days from the time you bring your vehicle to a service center. Tesla will not provide backup vehicles during this period. In addition to colored body wraps, Tesla also offers a $5,000 clear body wrap that protects the vehicle's original paint from chips and scratches while allowing the original color to shine through. Clear films do not cover the door edges, but colored films do.

It’s worth noting that these premium color wraps are only available on 2023 or newer Tesla Model 3 and Y model. Customers will also need to have version 4.23.0 or newer of the Tesla app to purchase the seven available packages via their smartphone. The Tesla Cybertruck has had its wraps replaced several times during testing in recent months, and the electric carmaker may also offer colored wraps as an optional extra for its upcoming pickup truck, especially given the inability to inspect the vehicle. The stainless steel body is spray painted.
