On October 27, the global conference on plastic-free paper cup industry chain application technology was successfully held at BASF Shanghai Innovation Park. Four companies, BASF, APP Sinar Light Group, Dubaicheng and Hunan Lile, represented the industry chain. The upstream, midstream and downstream companies announced that they will jointly promote the global development of plastic-free paper cup technology and reach a strategic partnership. This cooperation symbolizes the results of cross-industry joint innovation and also injects core technical support into the upgrading of the plastic-free paper industry to promote the innovation of recyclable products and help the development of low-carbon and circular economies.

Plastic-free paper cups are made from a combination of paper and barrier coating technology developed by REP (Recyclable Energy Product) Recyclable Energy Products. Its features include recyclable, degradable, compostable, microwaveable, and are suitable for hot drinks, cold drinks and other food containers. This technology, jointly developed by APP Jinguang Paper, Dubaicheng and BASF, aims to replace traditional PE coated paper cups and plastic cups with REP barrier coating, dedicated to solving the problem of plastic pollution and providing opportunities for the sustainable development of the paper industry. A new solution to promote innovative development of circular economy industries.

Mr. Lin Fanqiu, Chairman of Dubaicheng Group, Mr. Pang Hanming, Global Senior Vice President of BASF, and Mr. Zhang Taojie, General Manager of Hunan Lile, also shared their respective views, demonstrating the company’s expertise and achievements in the industry chain, “and looking forward to ‘Paper + REP’ market prospects.” This technology is expected to replace the market of 3 million tons of PE coated paper and 4 million tons of plastic cups, laying a solid foundation for industrial upgrading and development. Representatives from the four parties finally jointly signed a strategic cooperation memorandum, drawing a blueprint for cooperation for future global market development.
