The market demand for blue carbon continues to rise, and the industry still needs to reform towards environmental protection.
Blue charcoal is a new type of carbon material made from Jura clean coal. It has the advantages of high chemical activity, high fixed carbon, low aluminum content, and low sulfur. It can currently be used in metallurgy, chemical industry, and silicon carbide. and other fields, becoming an important material. Blue carbon can improve the quality of downstream products, save energy, reduce costs, increase output and other advantages. Therefore, its application value has increased and market demand continues to rise.
Blue charcoal was first used in Yulin. It is a niche specialty product. However, due to its obvious advantages and certain environmental protection attributes, it has been favored by the market and is produced in Xinjiang, Inner Mongolia, Ningxia and other regions. In terms of demand, the current market demand for blue charcoal is mainly in Sichuan, Gansu, Inner Mongolia, Ningxia and Shaanxi, and relatively stable industrial clusters have been formed.
According to the released “2021-2026 Blue Carbon Industry Market In-depth Research and Investment Prospects Forecast Analysis Report” shows that currently my country’s Blue Carbon Supply and demand are basically balanced. In 2020, my country’s blue charcoal output was 61 million tons, and the market demand was 60.89 million tons. In the past five years, my country’s blue charcoal output has shown a rapid growth trend. In 2016, my country’s blue charcoal output was about 34 million tons, with a compound annual growth rate of 12.4% in the past five years.
A large amount of phenolic ammonia wastewater will be produced during the production of blue charcoal, causing serious pollution to the environment. Yulin is the largest blue charcoal production city in my country, with a blue charcoal production capacity of more than 70 million tons. In 2019, Yulin City proposed the elimination of production equipment with a single furnace capacity of less than 75,000 tons, and it will only be implemented in 2021. Therefore, the elimination of domestic blue carbon production capacity has accelerated in recent years, and market concentration has continued to increase.
At present, the production of blue charcoal is dominated by small and well-known enterprises. Most of the enterprises are relatively small in scale. Due to the particularity of blue charcoal itself, it can only be produced with a moving bed vertical furnace. The technical requirements for improving the production capacity of a single furnace are relatively high. Currently, the largest unit The furnace production capacity is 200,000 tons/year. Affected by the above reasons, domestic blue carbon production capacity is relatively scattered.
Since most blue charcoal production enterprises are small in scale and have scattered production capacity, and most of them do not have wastewater treatment capabilities, they cause serious pollution to the environment and are not in line with the development trend of modern industry. In the future, the blue carbon industry needs to use new technologies and new equipment to increase single-furnace output, improve sewage treatment capabilities, and gradually develop in the direction of scale, high output value, and low energy consumption.
Industry analysts said that as a new type of clean energy, blue carbon can replace traditional coal products and save energy. At the same time, it reduces costs and meets the requirements of modern environmental protection policies, so application demand continues to rise. my country’s blue carbon production capacity is high, and Yulin is the largest production area. However, with the implementation of relevant policies, some backward production capacity has withdrawn from the market, and the current domestic blue carbon production capacity utilization rate is relatively high. Although blue charcoal has environmentally friendly properties, its production process poses a serious threat to the environment and limits the development of the industry. The industry still needs to continue to improve in the future.
