Southwest Research Institute’s methanol synthesis catalyst passed 110% load performance assessment

Southwestern Chemical Research and Design Institute Co., Ltd. (referred to as Southwest Institute) recently received the methanol synthesis catalyst performance assessment report from Guoneng Yulin Chemical Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Guoneng Yulin"). The device load is 110%. The daily production of MTO-grade methanol is 6,120 tons (pure), and all operating indicators meet the requirements of the device design indicators and technical agreement, marking the successful localization of Southwest Research Institute's methanol synthesis catalyst in the 1.86 million tons/year methanol unit of National Energy Yulin.

According to reports, Guoneng’s Yulin methanol plant adopts Davie’s methanol synthesis technology and is designed to produce 1.86 million tons of MTO-grade methanol (pure) per year. During the device overhaul in August 2023, the device was loaded with 233m³ of the XNC-98-5 methanol synthesis catalyst independently developed and produced by Southwest Research Institute at one time; it was successfully started on September 8 and produced qualified MTO grade methanol. The production load increased from the initial 80% quickly increased to more than 105%, and the device has been operating stably for more than 2 months. Recently, Guoneng Yulin Company organized a 72-hour 110% high-load performance assessment on the domestic methanol synthesis catalyst of this furnace. Southwest Research Institute's XNC-98-5 methanol synthesis catalyst has excellent performance. Various parameters such as raw gas unit consumption, synthesis tower pressure difference, MTO methanol output, and impurity content in crude alcohol are all better than the assessment index values, and it successfully passed the performance assessment. .

Up to now, Southwest Research Institute’s XNC-98-5 methanol synthesis catalyst has been successfully domestically applied in two sets of Davie water-cooled radial tower coal-to-methanol units with a capacity of more than 1.8 million tons/year owned by the National Energy Group, breaking the precedent of foreign companies. Long-term monopoly on the high-end methanol synthesis catalyst market.
