Ascend Performance Materials announces expansion of
The production base has launched a new Thermal Reduction Unit (TRU).
, which will reduce greenhouse gas emissions in its adipic acid production process by more than 98%. Ascend has renovated and upgraded its production equipment in 2021. The new equipment and management control system newly invested in this time have further improved its greenhouse gas emission reduction capabilities. As an integrated upstream and downstream polyamide manufacturer, Ascend has invested more than US$50 million in greenhouse gas emission reduction.
Ascend practices sustainable development and proposes the 2030 Vision for Sustainable Development, and recently announced that it will increase its greenhouse gas scope 1 emission reduction target to 90%.
Chris Johnson, Director of Sustainability, Ascend
pointed out: “We are always committed to continuous improvement in sustainable development and making meaningful long-term investments. This project plays a key role in reducing Scope 1 emissions, and reducing emissions is one of the nine goals of our Sustainable Development Vision 2030. one.”
The TRU project uses an advanced high-temperature reduction process to decompose nitrous oxide (N2O). The unit is equipped with a management control system that provides real-time continuous monitoring (CEMS) of concentration and total emissions through calibrated flow rates and total emissions.
, and have undergone third-party certification and auditing to ensure that emission reductions comply with internationally recognized standards and requirements.
Phil McDivitt, Ascend President and CEO
Said: “There is a long way to go in sustainability and we are very proud to have achieved this milestone. We will continue to work hard to reduce emissions while encouraging our partners to reduce their emissions. In addition to reducing emissions, we also focus on waste and wastewater disposal issues. Ascend values safety performance and continues to improve our green performance while creating sustainable career paths for employees and contributing to our communities through Ascend Cares.”
As a member of the United Nations Global Compact, Ascend integrates the concept of sustainable development into all aspects based on the United Nations Convention. Ascend has renovated and upgraded production facilities and built renewable energy facilities at its global production bases to reduce the use of carbon-based fuels as much as possible and increase the use of renewable energy. In addition to the TRU project at the Pensacola production base, Ascend has deployed a combined heat and power unit, Chocolate
The Bayou production base achieves 30% renewable energy use, and the Suzhou production base upgrades wastewater treatment and energy-saving devices; through process improvements and renewable energy quota transactions, Ascend has achieved scope 1 and scope 2 carbon emissions at all engineering materials production bases around the world. Neutralize operations. For its outstanding performance in sustainability, Ascend received the 2022 Responsible Award from the American Chemistry Council
Care® Responsible Care Award.
