Oleic acid Pure oleic acid is a colorless oily liquid with the smell of animal oil or vegetable oil. The color gradually becomes darker after being left in the air for a long time. The industrial product is a yellow to red oily liquid. , smells like lard.

Aboutthe existence and production of oleic acid:

Oleic acid, together with other fatty acids, exists in all animal and vegetable oils in the form of glycerides. In animal fats, oleic acid accounts for about 40-50% of the fatty acids. The content in vegetable oils varies greatly, reaching as high as 83% in camellia oil, 54% in peanut oil, and only 5-6% in coconut oil.

Oleic acid is a co-product in the production of stearic acid. Industrial stearic acid and industrial oleic acid actually contain other fatty acids. There are many oil raw materials used to produce stearic acid and oleic acid. In industry, mixed oil formulas are generally used, such as 30% melted beef tallow, 10% melted lard, 40% bone fat and 20% cottonseed oil. In the mixed fatty acids obtained by refining and hydrolyzing oils, the melting points of saturated acids and unsaturated acids are quite different. The yields of stearic acid and oleic acid mainly depend on the oil ester formula. Generally, cold pressing can obtain 30-50% oleic acid and 50-70% stearic acid. Animal and vegetable oils and emulsions are hydrolyzed at 105°C, purified with stearic acid, and the stearic acid is removed by one-time pressing to separate crude oleic acid, which is dehydrated, distilled, and frozen. After a second pressing, the palmitic acid is removed, and finally the finished product is dehydrated and refined. This method can co-produce stearic acid. Similarly, when stearic acid is produced from oleic acid, oleic acid will also be co-produced.
