Isopropyl myristate is a colorless and odorless liquid. It can be mixed with vegetable oil in any proportion to become transparent. It is not easy to hydrolyze and rancid, and can be mixed with alcohols and ethers. Miscible with organic solvents such as , methylene chloride, grease, etc.
Production method
The acidification method is mainly used. It is produced by separating myristic acid from coconut oleic acid and adding isopropyl alcohol for esterification reaction.
Usage
1. Isopropyl myristate is a non-fat emollient and is easily absorbed by the skin. It is a component of semi-solid matrices and can also be used as a solvent for many substances in topical formulations. It is used in a variety of topical preparations and cosmetics, including bath oils, cosmetics, hair and nail care products, creams, lotions, lip balms, shaving creams, emollients, deodorants, and otic suspensions.
2. Used as a dispersant for lipstick, hair cream, lip balm, cleaning cream, fragrance powder and medical ointment. It can also be used as a perfume fixative, and as a dispersant and raw material in the pharmaceutical industry. This product is one of the important ingredients in mid-to-high-end cosmetics. It has excellent penetration, moisturizing and softening effects on the skin and is used as an emulsifier and wetting agent in cosmetics.
3. Synthetic oils. Mainly used as a lubricant for emulsion cosmetics. It has good compatibility with other raw materials of cosmetics and can improve the affinity of cosmetics to the skin. Since it is slightly irritating to the skin, the dosage should not be excessive.
