The Swiss-French chemist Jacques Brandenberger used glycerol to Cellophane was invented after softening cellulose and was patented in 1912. Cellophane is a film made of natural fibers such as cotton pulp and wood pulp using an adhesive method. It is transparent, non-toxic and odorless. Because air, oil, bacteria and water cannot easily pass through cellophane, it can be used as food packaging. Cellophane is a film-like product made from recycled fibers. Coat one or both sides of ordinary cellophane with a moisture-proof coating, and then dry and adjust the humidity to make moisture-proof cellophane.

Glycerin (also known as glycerin) is a colorless, odorless, sweet-tasting organic substance that appears as a clear, viscous liquid. It is miscible with water, alcohols, amines and phenols in any proportion, and the aqueous solution is neutral. Glycerin is a polyol moisturizer. The hydroxyl groups in the molecular structure can form hydrogen bonds with water molecules, which plays a good role in absorbing and locking water. Glycerin has a wide range of uses. Currently, it has more than 1,700 uses. It is used in both food and industry.

Glycerin can be used as an additive for cellophane:

Plasticization is the key link to change the brittleness of cellophane. Cellophane paper that has not been plasticized is brittle, has low strength and is dull, and has basically no use value. Plasticizing cellophane can introduce a plasticizer into the cellulose macromolecules and generate hydrogen bonding force with the hydroxyl groups of the cellulose macromolecules, thereby weakening the hydrogen bonding force between the hydroxyl groups of the macromolecular bonds and improving the macromolecular bonds. The relative sliding properties between them make the cellophane soft and elastic.

In production, glycerin is usually used as a plasticizer in cellophane production. Glycerin is widely used in the production of cellophane as a plasticizer, which gives the cellophane the necessary softness and prevents the cellophane from breaking. Generally, the glycerin concentration is controlled at about 30%, and a good plasticizing effect can be achieved at a temperature of about 35°C.
