MARTOR selects recycled polyamide from DOMO Chemicals to create more sustainable knives

DOMO Chemicals, Europe’s leading producer of sustainable polyamide-based engineering materials, is pleased to announce a successful collaboration with MARTOR to develop a new range of sustainable safety tools.

DOMO Chemical’s PA6-based TECHNYL® 4EARTH® material will be used to mold MARTOR’s new ECO series safety knives SECUMAX 148 and SECUMAX 350
SE.

Featuring different proportions of fiberglass and made from 100% recycled polyamide, these new TECHNYL® 4EARTH® solutions fully comply with the mechanical requirements of the application and provide superior aesthetics, while also offering superior performance compared to solutions based on virgin polymers. Provides significant sustainability.

Sylke, Head of Product Management at MARTOR
Wendt said: “For more than 80 years, MARTOR has been combining quality with innovation to manufacture high-quality cutting tools for industrial and professional use. Today, we achieve an important milestone with the launch of these new products, which not only provide safety and performance, but also enhanced sustainability. Using recycled raw materials with certified environmental benefits is the first achievement. The next phase will be to reuse end-of-life tools to make them truly circular.”

TECHNYL® for MARTOR knives compared to the original alternative
4EARTH® materials significantly reduce your CO2 footprint. EPA certification data confirms that unfilled recycled polyamide grades emit a CO2 level of 0.3 kg CO2e during production, while 35% glass fiber reinforced grades emit 1.3 kg CO2e. If the same data set is used, the global warming potential of the original equivalent surrogate
(GWP), carbon dioxide emissions will be reduced by 60% to 90%.

Arndt, Global Key Account Manager, C&E Market, DOMO Chemical Engineering Plastics
Lechner said: “DOMO Chemical’s range of TECHNYL® 4EARTH® solutions is continuously expanding. We are investing in new feedstocks and recycling technologies to meet the growing demand for sustainable alternatives, especially in the consumer goods market. Today, we MARTOR is being supplied with recycled black materials, but as a next step we are developing sustainable alternatives in natural tones to match their corporate blue.”

Daniel, Head of Development and Technical Design at MARTOR
Dr. Zuber concluded: “In DOMO Chemicals, we have found a new, trusted sustainability partner with whom we will continue to collaborate to explore opportunities to further promote circularity.”
