• Actively explore and expand the application of mass balance MDI in Huafeng series products
• Reached new cooperation intentions and continued the successful cooperation at the previous two CIIEs
During the Sixth China International Import Expo, German materials manufacturer Covestro and Huafon Group signed a letter of intent for strategic cooperation to actively explore and expand the application of Covestro’s low-carbon raw materials in Huafeng’s series of products and jointly promote the development of circular economy.
According to the letter of intent signed at the Covestro booth, the two parties will work closely to jointly develop low-carbon solutions to help Huafeng reduce the carbon emissions and environmental impact of its polyurethane low-carbon series of products, including microfiber leather, thermoplastic polyurethane, and sole solutions , leather size and spandex, etc. The collaboration will focus on MDI produced by Covestro based on a mass balance approach, with a sustainable share resulting in a lower carbon footprint due to the use of alternative raw materials containing plant waste. MDI, diphenylmethane diisocyanate, can be widely used in footwear, automotive interiors, clothing and other fields.
Hermann-Josef, Global Head of Covestro’s Functional Materials Division
Doerholt said: “We are very pleased to continue to work with Huafon Group to pursue greener and low-carbon solutions. This fully demonstrates Covestro’s efforts to support customers and downstream industries to achieve sustainable development, and also It is consistent with China’s goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2060. The signing of the letter of cooperation also demonstrates our mutual firm commitment to combating climate change and promoting the circular economy.”
You Feiyu, Chairman of Huafon Group, said: “The new strategic cooperation plan reflects our determination to create a more sustainable future. By working closely with Covestro, we hope to develop more innovative low-end Carbon solutions that help minimize the impact on the environment and drive the industry forward. At the same time, we look forward to working together to advance the issue of sustainable development on a global scale.”
Long-term cooperation, looking forward to reaching new heights
Huafon is an important customer of Covestro, and both parties have continued to promote cooperation over the years. Especially since Covestro participated in the CIIE for the first time in 2021, the cooperation between the two parties in promoting the development of circular economy has continued to deepen.
During the Fourth China International Import Expo in 2021, Covestro announced that it had signed its first mass-balanced MDI commercial order certified by the authoritative ISCC PLUS in the Asia-Pacific region with Huafon Group. 2022
In 2017, Huafon Microfiber (a subsidiary of Huafon Group), Covestro and other value chain partners reached two cooperations during the fifth China International Import Expo.
They respectively aim to promote the application of low-carbon polyurethane solutions in various industries and accelerate the commercialization process of circular material solutions in the furniture industry, laying the foundation for deeper cooperation in the future.
