As a leader in sustainable polyamides, DOMO Chemicals proposes innovative circular solutions for the power tools and household appliances sectors. This breakthrough consists of a new combination of PA6 and TPE, offering unlimited color options and the same mechanical properties as the original PA6 material.
This new materials combination is a collaboration between DOMO Chemical Company and Mitsubishi Chemical Group (MCG)
The result of a collaborative project within the Performance Polymers division, it provides for the first time excellent adhesion and feel, as well as increased sustainability through the use of recycled material raw materials.
TECHNYL® 4EARTH® C1E 249 SIL1 V30 RD 3202 is a polyamide with 30% recycled content, color red RAL
3202, developed exclusively for Mitsubishi Chemical. Mitsubishi Chemical needed polyamides with recycled content to add value to its new recycled thermoplastic elastomer (TPE-S) compounds for two-component (2K) applications.

“For the first time, unlimited color sustainable combinations are available for polyamide and TPE parts, allowing customers to match the colors they want for optimal brand recognition,” said Schutz.

RESWEBER said: “We were looking for recycled polyamides that could meet the color requirements of the most common power tools. Customized color is an important part of product design functionality as it enhances brand recognition for the end consumer. Through DOMO Chemicals, We have found the right partner. With its broad portfolio of sustainable polyamides, we have been able to find the right solution, combining our new recycled TPE compounds for two-component applications with the value of polyamides.”
Strong combination
Typical applications for this TPE/PA two-component molding solution include handles or bases for power tools or household appliances. Other application areas include medical devices, small appliances, electrical and electronics, eyeglass frames and sports equipment. TPE overmolded onto engineering plastics can enhance the performance of end-use applications and increase brand recognition of these consumer products.
The combination of PA overmolding with TPE brings multiple advantages: polyamide offers low density, high chemical resistance and very good mechanical properties, combined with TPE’s soft touch, good grip and sound insulation. Both solutions provide excellent surface quality often required in consumer product applications. Depending on the design, TPE can also ensure moisture, dust and air sealing.
Mitsubishi Chemical’s TEFABLOC™
TG0174465A is a TPE-S compound made from 30% recycled content and capable of bonding a wide range of engineering plastics, including PA6, PA66 and PA610. This material can be overmolded directly on PA6 and PA66 without the need for additional adhesives, making it compatible with DOMO Chemical’s TECHNYL®
4EARTH® PERFECT MATCH.
Technical process: two-component molding
A wide variety of thermoplastic materials are used to manufacture molded products. Thermoplastic selection depends on the functionality required in the end-use application. If one particular material doesn’t meet the requirements, two or more thermoplastics can be combined to close the gap. Two-component injection molding replaces older methods such as mechanical fastening, solvent bonding, welding, adhesive bonding or press/snap assembly due to its higher productivity and versatility. Two-component injection molding, also known as two-shot molding or overmolding, consists of one machine with two separate injection molding units.

Schutz said: “This joint development highlights our companies’ shared goal to provide more sustainable solutions to the industrial and consumer goods markets and meet new regulatory requirements and the growing demand for more sustainable solutions. The solution “It meets the growing demand for TPE/PA bonded parts that deliver branding and functional properties in two-component applications and help our customers meet sustainability challenges.”
DOMO Chemical’s TECHNYL® 4EARTH® product portfolio includes a broad range of recycled polyamide solutions, with PA6 and PA66-based materials with varying percentages of recycled content and fillers, based on different recycling technologies and feedstocks to meet specific customer requirements need.
