Evonik to release first UV anchoring agent with recycled silicone raw material

News from Essen, Germany, Evonik will soon release the first anchoring agent product in the new generation of TEGO®RC solution series: TEGO®RC2000LCF. This is a free radical light curing silicone product that uses recycled silicone raw materials.

The TEGO® RC2000LCF can be cured using lower-energy UV LEDs or conventional UV arc lamps, helping label producers reduce their carbon footprint to meet growing sustainability goals. Evonik Free Radical Light Curing Tego
RC silicone series products are an important part of labels and have been widely used in various film and paper substrates for more than decades. This type of product has an excellent curing mechanism, the curing reaction is not affected by the substrate, does not damage the performance of the substrate, and ensures the smoothness of the paper. Curing times as short as fractions of a second at room temperature enable low energy consumption.

According to the “FINAT RADAR 2023″ report released by the European Self-adhesive Label Industry Association, 81% of the surveyed members have an increasing demand for environmentally friendly label products. Global Manager Coatings Business, Evonik Interface Technologies
Chris
“Sustainability is increasingly at the top of the agenda across the label value chain as consumer demand is strong. We are focused on developing and bringing to market innovative solutions that enable our customers to achieve their sustainable Development goals. Our latest product helps them reduce energy consumption by incorporating UV LEDs, and with the introduction of recycled raw materials, we have taken a major step forward in reducing the overall footprint without sacrificing product performance.”

Evono’s mono-anchors feature easy-to-control mold release properties, very good curing and anchoring properties, and excellent aging stability with industry-leading pressure-sensitive adhesives (PSAs) and heat-sensitive substrates. Evonik plans to present the new TEGO® RC at Labelexpo Europe 2023, September 11-14, 2023 in Brussels, booth 3C66
2000 LCF and its entire portfolio of release coatings for label and linerless label applications.

For a standard pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) label, the release substrate accounts for 40% of the entire label material, and the release substrate becomes useless waste after the label is used. The birth of the linerless label marks another huge technological advancement in the label industry, making it possible to remove the liner. Using linerless labels can reduce waste and make labels more environmentally friendly. The advanced curing technology of TEGO® light-curing silicones makes it possible to coat the surface of printed films and papers with silicon. However, traditional heat-curing silicones and cationic silicones are interfered by printing inks due to their curing mechanism, making them difficult to use on printed surfaces. Evonik’s advanced curing technology can apply glue to the back of the printed silicon-coated label, and then rewind it directly, so that the label becomes an adhesive tape, which is easy to pack and use.
