Growing concerns about the impact of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) on human health and the environment have led to growing demand for alternatives to polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE). To adapt to this trend, Clariant launches Ceridust
8170 M, a PFAS/PTFE-free texturing agent used in architectural and general industrial powder coatings to produce textured effects.
Applied to surfaces ranging from window frames and fences to furniture and bicycle rims, this new additive delivers superior performance in a variety of light and dark powder coatings without extrusion melt expansion and Adjust the glossiness and texture thickness.
Ceridust 8170 M complies with the EU Regulation on the Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals. The additive also helps reduce energy consumption during the extrusion process.
Now, a growing number of laws and regulations around the world are regulating PFAS-related compounds. The European Union has drafted laws to further restrict or ban the use of PFAS products. It is currently consulting with the public and will be implemented as early as 2026. Japan’s Environment Agency has approved a comprehensive ban on 56 perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA)-related compounds under the country’s Chemical Substances Control Law, including a ban on the production, import and use of these compounds. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency proposes to list PFOA and PFOS as “hazardous substances” under the federal Superfund Act.

Clariant’s PTFE-free solution consists of polyethylene wax and a bio-based wax blend. Applications have proven that these products can successfully replace polyethylene/PTFE additives.
