[alias] metasilicic acid
[Molecular formula] H2SiO3
[Property] White amorphous powder or transparent shiny glassy solid. Relative density 2.1-2.3. It is very weakly acidic. Soluble in hydrofluoric acid, soluble in sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide solution, insoluble in water or other inorganic acids. Reacts violently with hydrofluoric acid and decomposes. Heating to 150°C decomposes into silicon dioxide. Soluble silicate, plus any weak acid, can get silicic acid. Free unimolecular silicic acid. It is soluble in water, but it gradually associates in the solution to form bimolecules and trimolecules, and finally forms an insoluble multi-molecular polymer, which is a colloidal solution, called 'silicic acid sol'. For example, the concentration of silicate solution is relatively high. Silicate jelly is formed directly after adding acid, and silicic acid gel is obtained after dehydration. It has a large water content, is soft, transparent, and elastic.

[Application] Used in the manufacture of catalysts, catalyst supports, adsorbent silica gel, silicate, flux in tungsten wire processing, and adsorbent for chromatographic separation. It is also used for decolorization of grease and wax.
[Simple preparation method] Soak fine-porous spherical silica gel in hydrochloric acid for several hours, wash with deionized water, and dry to obtain silicic acid.
[Safety and Protection] Packed in airtight and dry glass bottles, each with a net weight of 500g. Store in a cool dry place.
