[Molecular formula]C9H16O4
[Structural formula]HOOC(CH2)7COOH
[Property] Azelaic acid is colorless or light yellow monoclinic needle-like or leaf-like crystals, or crystalline powder . The relative density is 1.225 (25°C), the melting point is 106.5°C, the boiling point is 226°C (1.33kpa), the refractive index is 1.4303 (110°C), decarboxylation occurs at 320-340°C, and the part above 360°C forms anhydrous. Slightly soluble in cold water, soluble in hot water, ethanol, ether and acetone.
[Application] Organic synthesis raw material, used to prepare diethyl azelate, dioctyl azelate and other esters, Used as plasticizer and lubricant. Azelaic acid can be dehydrated with ammonia to obtain azelanitrile, which is an important intermediate for the preparation of nylon-9. It is also a raw material for the manufacture of alkyd resins, spices and capacitor enabling foils. It can also be used as a polymer modifier and unsaturated polyester additive to improve cold resistance, flexibility and impact resistance.
[Brief recipe]
①Using oleic acid as raw material, oleic acid is made by ozone oxidation, and then further made into a mixture of nonanoic acid and azelaic acid, and azelaic acid is obtained after separation acid.
②Castor oil is obtained by pyrolysis.
