Foreign research on potassium diformate started early. Petrochemical giants such as BASF are also internationally renowned potassium diformate manufacturers and have very strong competitiveness in the global market. The domestic potassium diformate industry started relatively late, with relatively little research on its synthesis process and application, and the overall development of the industry lags behind foreign markets. With the continuous development of the domestic potassium diformate industry, many domestic companies such as Anhui Wangsheng Additive Co., Ltd., Zhejiang Huineng Biological Co., Ltd., and Shandong Huazhi Biotechnology Co., Ltd. are engaged in the production and sales of potassium diformate. Domestic sources of potassium carbonate/potassium hydroxide are wide and the price is low. Therefore, many domestic dimethyl formate companies adopt the production process of formic acid-potassium carbonate/potassium hydroxide, which is different from the methyl formate-potassium carbonate/hydroxide production process of BASF and other well-known foreign companies. There are still certain gaps in potassium production technology.

In recent years, the breeding industry has been advocating green “antibiotic-free” breeding. Potassium diformate is an organic acid preparation with high safety and is an ideal substitute for antibiotics. Industry analysts said that the total output of industrial feed and feed additives in the country is expected to reach 450 million tons and 21 million tons respectively in 2025. By then, the demand for potassium diformate will reach about 2.5 million tons. Compared with the total output of 1.5 million tons in 2021, the industrialization of potassium diformate has accelerated significantly, and its industry has broad prospects for growth.
