Covestro’s polycarbonate compounding plant in Newark, Ohio, USA, has received ISCC
PLUS certification (International Sustainability and Carbon Certification), which increases the company’s supply of mass-balanced polycarbonate (PC) products in the United States. Covestro’s plant in Baytown, Texas, USA, received the certification earlier this year.
Makrolon® polycarbonate is compounded at Covestro’s Newark plant and is used in the automotive, electronics and healthcare industries, among others. With ISCC PLUS certification, the facility will now be able to produce Makrolon®
RE grade renewable products. According to Covestro, Makrolon®
RE is produced using existing infrastructure, can contain up to 89% biorecycled raw materials, and has the same physical properties as traditional Makrolon® polycarbonate. Makrolon®
RE is part of Covestro’s broader Circular Intelligence (CQ) product portfolio, and ISCC PLUS certification expands the company’s circular product range in the United States.
Samir Hifri, Chairman and President of Covestro LLC, said: “The ISCC
PLUS certification is an important milestone and provides added value to our customers and key industries. Covestro’s polycarbonate production in the United States is now more sustainable. Our Makrolon®
The RE Series is the first choice for customers looking for solutions to achieve their climate goals. ”
