Maoming Petrochemical’s refining transformation and upgrading and ethylene upgrading and transformation project was included in the National Petrochemical Industry Planning and Layout Plan by the National Development and Reform Commission. The reporter noticed that localized core technologies and applications have become a feature of the new project. Among the 16 units constructed in this project, 14 units use Sinopec’s own advanced technology, accounting for 87.5%. Among them, the technology of many units such as 240,000 tons/year hydrogen peroxide has reached domestic leading and world advanced levels. The localization rate of project equipment is 98.65%, and the core key units such as the third ethylene machine all use localized equipment. Maoming Petrochemical will adopt the overall chemical refining process with “catalytic cracking + base oil upgrading” as the core without increasing the total refining capacity, and use independent and leading high-efficiency catalytic cracking technology to maximize the production of ethylene raw materials and chemical products. .
According to reports, the project includes two parts: refining transformation and upgrading and ethylene upgrading and transformation. Among them, in the refining transformation and upgrading part, while maintaining the primary crude oil processing capacity of 18 million tons/year, in accordance with the principle of “reducing oil and increasing oil”, Sinopec’s latest proprietary technology is used to build 4 sets of catalytic cracking units with a capacity of 3 million tons/year. The ethylene upgrading and transformation part uses independent innovative technology to transform the ethylene scale from 1 million tons/year to 1.64 million tons/year, and build 12 units of 1 million tons/year ethylene, 400,000 tons/year full-density polyethylene, and supporting facilities. Utilities and ancillary facilities.
After the project is put into operation, Maoming Petrochemical will reduce the production of refined oil products by 1.85 million tons/year and increase the production of ethylene raw materials by 1.67 million tons/year, effectively coping with the impact of the increasing domestic refining overcapacity and the growing scale of alternative energy, and maximizing the production of chemical raw materials and chemical products. ; Chemical downstream products target the South China regional market, focus on the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and combine the needs of Maoming (National) High-tech Industrial Development Zone to produce high-end synthetic materials and fine materials such as metallocene polyethylene, propylene oxide, ABS resin, and environmentally friendly rubber oil. Chemical raw materials can effectively replace imports and strengthen the domestic industrial chain and supply chain.
“Green content” has become another major feature of the project. The project adopts environmentally friendly new technologies, new processes, and new equipment. The wastewater reuse rate is increased from 50% to 70%. The ethylene carbon emission intensity per 10,000 yuan of output value is reduced by 20%. The energy consumption of the ethylene unit is reduced by 13.3%, which is far better than the industry energy efficiency benchmark. level to achieve “increasing production without increasing pollution”.
It is reported that the project is expected to be completed and put into production by the end of 2026. By then, Maoming Petrochemical’s product categories will be further enriched, adding more than 2 million tons of chemical products every year, which can increase the total output value of the downstream petrochemical industry by more than 150 billion yuan, effectively driving the high-quality development of Maoming and even South China petrochemical industry clusters.
