Climate protection requires the industry to gradually move away from oil and other fossil raw materials and towards the use of raw materials from renewable sources. This is why Covestro relies increasingly on alternative raw materials, including those from biomass. For example, the company offers Impranil®, a new aliphatic polycarbonate-polyether polyurethane dispersion
CQ DLU, used in textile coatings, contains approximately 34% carbon from plants. Impranil® CQ DLU
Expanding on its existing range of partially bio-based dispersions for textile coatings, the company’s pure petroleum-based Impranil® DLU has been a hit with customers.
Customers can now replace Impranil® with Impranil® CQ DLU in their processing operations as the new dispersion offers the same superior performance as existing dispersions, as well as a higher solids content of 55%
DLU to easily improve the sustainability of textile coatings. Sustainability is increasingly becoming a key purchasing criterion for the industry, brand owners and consumers. CQ stands for “Circular Intelligence”. The core idea of the CQ concept is that Covestro products are marked if the content of alternative raw materials exceeds 25% (as in this example).
As the raw material for INSQIN® technology, the proven Impranil®
DLU has been able to achieve water-based textile coatings without the use of solvents. The ecological footprint of this coating is significantly lower than that of solvent-based systems. Torsten, Global Head of Textile Coatings, Covestro
Dr. Pohl said: “With the innovative Impranil® CQ
With DLU becoming part of our Impranil™ CQ product portfolio, we are now taking the next step in making the textile coatings industry more sustainable by increasing the use of renewable resources. ”
Impranil®CQ
DLU is suitable for the production of synthetic materials for sporting goods, technical textiles, automotive interiors and luggage. Coatings based on new high-performance dispersions offer excellent hydrolysis resistance, very good lightfastness as well as high tensile strength and scratch resistance. In addition, the coating has good touch feel and alkali resistance. Impranil®CQ
DLU can be used in mid-coats and topcoats. The dispersions can be applied in a variety of ways: from direct coating or transfer coating to printing processes and microfiber impregnation.
