Protective packaging specialist Storopack recently launched FOAMplus
5504RC, the first polyurethane foam with renewable content.
Storopack says the sustainable polyurethane foam, which weighs just 0.30 pounds per cubic foot and is partially composed of sugar-based materials obtained from renewable resources, will meet the most stringent cushioning requirements.
When two liquid ingredients are mixed together, FOAMplus expands to 20 times its liquid volume. As HCFC- and HFC-free polyurethane foam expands and cures, it takes on the shape of the packaged goods, making it ideal for cushioning, void filling and shock absorption. The high compressive strength of polyurethane foam reliably protects mechanical and electronic parts as well as components in the automotive industry.
Foam pads can be reused multiple times. This extremely lightweight packaging solution reduces shipping weight while replacing fossil-based foam, as it has similar material properties and can be further processed into high-quality protective packaging.
