Solvay, the world’s leading supplier of specialty materials, has entered into a strategic partnership with Hegen to deliver on Hegen’s premium Press-to-Close, Twist-to-Open™
(PCTO™) baby bottle range using sustainable Duradex™ polyphenylsulfone
(PPSU). This PPSU’s recycled, non-fossil raw material content is certified by a third-party mass balance, meeting end-customer expectations for more sustainable products. Duradex™
PPSU is an amorphous, naturally amber-colored, transparent polymer that is free of artificial colors, phthalates, and bisphenols (such as BPA).

Polymers that exhibit the same performance as those previously used in manufacturing our premium Hegen
PCTO™ is made from the same high-performance materials used in bottles, including excellent processability and uncompromising durability, making it a highly effective alternative to all fossil-based PPSU solutions. ”
Duradex™ PPSU MB is associated with a 54% allocation of recycled, non-fossil-based raw materials that are certified by the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC PLUS)
mass balance certification. Mass balance accounting methods provide a reliable way to track raw material content from material production to final application.
In addition, Solvay’s Duradex™
PPSU-MB polymer is highly scratch and stain resistant, does not absorb odors, and provides an inherently non-stick surface. It combines excellent hydrolytic stability and shatterproof toughness with high heat resistance. These properties also enable the lightweight, ergonomically shaped and large-opening bottle to withstand over 1,000 steam or hot water sterilization and dishwasher cycles without any risk of damage.
Hegen’s PCTO™ baby bottles will be on display at Fakuma 2023, and both companies are committed to bringing the first mass-balanced PPSU baby bottles to market by 2024.
