German materials manufacturer Covestro has announced that it will supply Desmopan®, a new thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) that meets strict Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards, to the Asia Pacific region.
GMP series products. This series of products will be produced at Covestro’s Changhua base in Taiwan and can meet the high requirements of food contact applications. GMP series products. ” Andrea, Global Head of Thermoplastic Polyurethane Business Unit at Covestro
Dr. Maier-Richter said: “Covestro has accumulated rich experience in producing high-performance TPU materials on the basis of meeting GMP standards in other regions. In the future, we will also be committed to applying our expertise to meet the needs of Asia-Pacific customers. need.”

Desmopan®
The GMP series of high-performance products are corrosion-resistant, wear-resistant and fatigue-resistant, making them extremely durable. It’s also water-resistant and can withstand washing and frequent wiping without degrading over time. In addition, the series offers good dimensional stability, flexibility and durability, allowing it to withstand various forces without breaking or cracking, such as the forces of tooth movement experienced by dental braces. In addition, this series of products complies with the EU Food Contact Plastic Materials and Articles Regulation EU10/2011 (text relevant to the European Economic Area), as well as the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) 21 CFR
Relevant standards for 177.1680 (polyurethane resin) and 21 CFR 177.2600 (rubber products for reuse).

Lisa Ketelsen, Head of Covestro’s Thermoplastic Polyurethane Business Unit Asia Pacific, added: “In addition to following strict food contact and health and safety production standards, our Changhua site has also obtained ISCC
PLUS certified. This means that products from the Changhua site can provide product specifications with a share of alternative raw materials produced based on a mass-balanced approach, supporting customers in achieving their sustainability goals. These specifications not only help customers reduce their carbon footprint, but also maintain the same functionality and properties as fossil-based materials. ”

Mass balance allocates alternative non-fossil-based ingredients to individual products through a chain-of-custody approach. This makes it possible to track material content through the value chain.
