[Properties] Linoleic acid is an unsaturated higher aliphatic diene acid. The pure product is a colorless liquid and an industrial product. It is light yellow with a relative density of 0.9025 (20℃), a melting point of -5℃, a boiling point of 129℃ (2.67Pa), 224℃ (1.333kPa), 228℃ (1.866kPa), 230℃ (2.133kPa), and a refractive index of 1.4699 (20 ℃). The iodine value is 181.1 and the acid value is 200. Insoluble in water, easily soluble in ether, petroleum ether, soluble in anhydrous ethanol, chloroform and benzene, and miscible with dimethylformamide, oil solvents, etc. It is easy to oxidize and polymerize when placed in the air. When treated with nitrogen oxides, it is converted into translinoleic acid, and is converted into stearic acid by catalytic hydrogenation.
