● Dermadry chooses Covestro’s polycarbonate material for medical device to treat hyperhidrosis

● Hyperhidrosis, characterized by excessive sweating, affects about 1 in 20 people worldwide.

● Dermadry selected Covestro’s Makrolon® 2458 polycarbonate as a key component in a new device to treat hyperhidrosis.

● Makrolon® 2458 material has many advantages, including impact resistance, biocompatibility, quality and aesthetics.

Hyperhidrosis, a condition characterized by excessive sweating, affects the quality of life of approximately one in two people worldwide. Dermadry
Laboratories, a leading manufacturer of water iontophoresis devices for the home treatment of hyperhidrosis, has selected polycarbonate from Covestro for an important component of its latest Dermadry tap water iontophoresis (TWI) device. Covestro aims to improve people’s health and overall well-being by offering a broad portfolio of medical-grade plastics to help OEMs such as Dermadry bring their innovative medical applications to market.

Dermadry offers three custom tap water iontophoresis (TWI) solutions to treat the areas most commonly affected by hyperhidrosis: hands, feet and armpits. Through extensive research, Dermadry found that existing treatment equipment was complicated to use, took up a lot of space, and seemed too technical. In its latest iteration, Dermadry set out to design a device that was user-friendly, ergonomic and aesthetically pleasing. All-in-one Dermadry
The Total machine solves these problems while stopping sweat production by using a gentle electrical current from running water to disrupt the signal between the nerves and the sweat glands. The device’s treatment tray, made of polycarbonate, is designed to make water iontophoresis easier and more comfortable for the user, and also interlocks to form a convenient, compact storage case for all device components.

Dermadry evaluated several different treatment tray materials, including acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene and polypropylene, before choosing Makrolon® 2458 polycarbonate from Covestro.

Dermadry found that this medical polycarbonate grade had the desired physical properties, including excellent impact resistance, clarity, quality and biocompatibility. At the same time, it has the aesthetics required for this application – smooth surfaces and ergonomic design.

Mathieu, Marketing Director of Dermadry
“We sought a biocompatible material for the skin that went beyond the standard properties of polycarbonate resins. Thanks to Makrolon®, Dermadry was able to design a product that evokes wellbeing and provides a soothing experience,” said Mireault. Xtron’s excellent reputation and ISO10993 testing led to our decision.”

In fact, manufacturers of medical devices and equipment have relied on high-quality materials from Covestro for more than 50 years. Covestro offers a broad portfolio of biocompatible, medical-grade products that are proven in a wide range of applications, from IV components and surgical instruments to drug delivery solutions.

Anthony, Business Development Manager, Covestro
Leo said: “I am extremely gratified to know that materials from Covestro are making a positive difference in people’s lives. We are honored to have earned the confidence and trust of Dermadry and to play a role in the process to meet the real needs of the market.” need.”
