Covestro Elastomers founder Michel Baulé dies at 79

It is with great sadness that Covestro and its employees have learned that Michel Baulé, entrepreneur in the castable polyurethane elastomer industry, passed away on January 13 at the age of 79.

Thomas Braig, Global President of Covestro’s Elastomer Division, said: “We and Michel
Baulé’s family also expressed their condolences. We will always fondly remember this entrepreneur, brilliant man and our friend who was the founder of Covestro’s Elastomers business. ”

Michelle
Baulé is from Cavaillon, France, and has a Ph.D. in chemistry. He started his business in 1976 at the age of 33, creating a molding company for cast polyurethane parts in Romans-sur-Isère, France. Fate, circumstances and his passion for innovation led him to establish a second company in 1983, specializing in the formulation of castable elastomers. He and Philippe
Jeantin (currently Global Equipment Director Elastomers at Covestro), Antonio Alvarez and Mauro
Together, Modugno and others founded another company in 1987, dedicated to the design and manufacture of low-pressure pouring machines.

These businesses work together to become leaders in the field. Later, the company spun off the forming entity to its executives, becoming EXSTO. And Baulé combines material formulation and machine manufacturing, and successfully established a joint venture with Bayer’s material science department in 2008. In 2012, this turned into a merger and Baulé’s former business officially became part of the Bayer Group. In 2015, it became part of the spin-off of Covestro from its parent company Bayer. Today, this business is passed on in Covestro’s Elastomers business entity, still headquartered in Romans-sur-Isère, France.

Abdel Arhzaf, Managing Director of Covestro Elastomers SAS, added: “We would like to send Michel
Baulé, the genius who inspired dozens of innovations in the cast polyurethane elastomer industry, including the development of three-component systems using quasi-MDI prepolymers, and many innovative processing concepts that lead us to maintain and Promotion of equipment technology under the Baulé® brand. We will miss him greatly. ”

After making valuable contributions to the development of the cast polyurethane elastomer industry, Michel
Baulé founded a family office called EXIMIUM, which has maintained all its entrepreneurial culture through acquisitions and participation, while developing financial activities and support services. He remained very active and energized in his entrepreneurial role until the last few days.
