On February 9th, Dürr released a new unmanned transportation system specially designed for paint shops –
Dürr EcoProFleet driverless transport system (Automatic Guided Vehicle AGV). The system can transport a variety of bodies from small cars to pickup trucks, and greatly improves transportation flexibility. It is used in conjunction with the new DXQ software product developed by Dürr Digital Factory. The hardware and software together realize flexible production layout and optimized control of material flow, improving the production efficiency and scalability of the industrial coating process.
Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) are used throughout the majority of the painting process and are key to ensuring smooth transport of car bodies between work areas and temporary factory storage locations. EcoProFleet is to meet this diverse design needs. It transports any type of body, from small cars, SUVs and pickups, to unique shapes such as truck cabs, then places the body in the work area, or keeps it ready during the painting process.
It is with the help of an EcoProFleet automatic guided vehicle that can run continuously for 24 hours that Dürr’s “painting workshop of the future” replaces the traditional production line with fixed beats with modular workstations. This is the only driverless transportation system currently on the market that can operate around the clock, as it does not need to recharge its energy storage at night like other AGVs. Instead, EcoProFleet briefly connects with charging points along the route. These charging points are distributed where the AGV stops, for example, when the car body is transported to the work area. Although the charging time is short, the power is enough for the automatic guided vehicle to unload the body, return to the production area immediately, and start the next transportation task.
Transportation routes can be adjusted flexibly
DXQlogistics.control is Dürr’s tailor-made control software solution for EcoProFleet automatic guided vehicles, which can digitally control the material flow according to the usage of workstations, equipment and their availability. The software can also automatically determine the next process and the next workstation according to the body type and preset process steps. To optimize logistics, it can also receive destinations outside the preset routes, such as outbound transfer stations or temporary storage areas. Therefore, if a work area fails or a body surface needs to be reworked, the software is always flexible and adjusts the preset transport route.
EcoProFleet works in conjunction with DXQlogistics.control to ensure that all workstations are fully utilized. DXQlogistics.control software pre-schedules all tasks and deploys scenarios for all factors affecting transit times. Working in conjunction with EcoProFleet automated guided vehicles, not only do workers not have to wait for the next car body, but it also allows all workstations to be fully utilized, increasing productivity and avoiding unproductive downtime and takt time losses. Both the EcoProFleet AGV and the DXQ software are modular in design. They can operate independently or in conjunction with each other. They will play an important role in the flexibility and scalability of the paint shop in the future.
