LyondellBasell announces the expansion of its range of sustainable products with the launch of +LC (Low Carbon) solutions, produced according to the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) PLUS certified mass balance method A range of intermediates and derivatives (I&D) chemicals. These +LC solutions are derived from recycled and renewable feedstocks and are suitable for sustainable and high-performance applications. Designed to support businesses in achieving greenhouse gas emissions by delivering a lower carbon footprint than fossil alternatives (GHG) emission reduction targets.
Kimberly, Executive Vice President, I&D and Refining, LyondellBasell Foley said: “Sustainability is embedded in our business strategy. The +LC solution marks a key step for our customers as they increasingly move towards more ambitious greenhouse gas reduction targets and product circularity. These Low carbon solutions will use renewable, bio-based and recycled feedstocks, enabling our customers to reduce their scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions. We apply our long history of innovation, customer-centric approach and focus on sustainability, Designing a product range that aligns with our company and customer sustainability goals.”
Building on 70 years of quality assurance and innovative R&D in I&D, LyondellBasell enhances its already strong product portfolio with the new +LC product line. These include core products such as styrene monomer, ethylene and propylene oxide (PO), which are used in everything from insulation to automotive and consumer goods. This announcement follows the recent start-up of LyondellBasell's propylene oxide and tert-butyl alcohol (PO/TBA) plant in Texas, USA, further solidifying the company's position as a global leader in research and development. The PO/TBA unit has an annual production capacity of 470,000 PO and 1 million tons of TBA and its derivatives.
Each product in the +LC range comes with an ISCC PLUS mass balance certificate, providing traceability throughout the value chain. Additionally, these products provide a Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) data, enabling companies to directly compare the carbon footprint of +LC solutions with traditional fossil-based solutions. By selecting +LC products, businesses can now seamlessly integrate sustainability into their operations without compromising performance, reflecting a balanced approach to meeting functional needs and sustainability goals.
The +LC solution is currently available in Europe and the Americas, with plans to expand to Asia in early 2024. Providing products based on renewable and recycled raw materials as alternatives to fossil raw materials helps conserve fossil resources and reduce greenhouse gas emissions from raw material production.
